The 1st Annual Wish You Were Here
Music Festival will be held on Saturday, May 8, l-6 p.m. at Tredegar
Iron Works. The concert is being held in memory of Nick Adams, a
Collegiate senior who died at age l7 last August in a speed-related car
accident, and to launch the Wish You Were Here Foundation, an
organization founded by Nick's friends to raise awareness about
speed-related car crashes by reminding each other what a great loss it
is to lose a friend. Tickets are now on sale at Plan 9 and at
Collegiate School.
Florez ("soul singing, blues roots, and lyrics to feed both the
mind and spirit") will headline the event which also features music by
JUMA, l/2 and l/2, Muleskinner, Lotus, Highwater, and
Baltimore's popular Fools & Horses. Tickets are $5 and t-shirts
will be on sale for $l0. All proceeds go toward an awareness campaign
that is beginning with a billboard featuring the slogan "Slow down.
Heaven can wait." (on I-64
near Staples Mill) The Wish You Were Here Foundation is hoping to
expand the billboard campaign nationwide.
Classmates Harry Ludeman, Sam Corey, and Grant Steadman are working on a
documentary video about the planing of the concert and friends' memories
of Nick.
A new website,
www.wishuwerehere.org. has just gone
live and it features information on the foundation, the concert and the
opportunity for site visitors to journal about friends or family they
have lost. |
